EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education in May of 2020. I created this professional portfolio in hopes of graduating Magna Cum Laude, or with High honors. This portfolio showcases the work I completed throughout my college career, including academic preparation, practical experience in health education, and extracurricular activities.

At the top of the web page are subtitles which lead to other portions of the portfolio. The first page, “Introduction”, consists of my philosophy of health education, résumé, as well as this executive summary. I believe this page gives viewers a good idea of who I am as well as what I hope to do within the field of Health Education.

The second page, “Academic Preparation” includes three of my best educational projects from my Health Education and Behavior courses. Throughout college I worked hard to earn high grades, and I am very proud of my academic work. The first project is an Adobe Spark of a Health Promotion Program that I created called Sports for Success. I created this program for the course Planning and Evaluating Health Education Programs (HSC4713) and received an “A”. The next project is a paper that I wrote for Person and Family Health (HSC3102) about Health Behavior Change, which is a key part of my health education philosophy. The paper was a 3-part project and I received an “A”. The last project on this page is a group project that I helped create for Methods and Materials in Health Education (HSC4302). This project, “Moving Past the Stigma: A School Health Intervention”, was a presentation that focused on Mental Health Literacy in children. These projects were all so different, and each taught me a great deal about health education.

The third page of my portfolio is “Practical Experience in Health Education”. This page includes three projects I created during my practical work experience in health education, including my final semester internship. I completed a part-time internship at HOPE- Horses Helping People- during my last semester at the University of Florida (UF). HOPE is an organization that provides Equine-assisted therapy for individuals with special needs. Included in my portfolio are two projects I created about HOPE which were presented to potential donors, volunteers, and clients. The last project in this section of the portfolio is a Fall Education PDF for staff and patients of UF Health Shands Hospital. This project was developed during my work as a Patient Care Assistant on Unit 64 in hopes of reducing the amount of patient falls.

The “Extracurricular Activities” page of my portfolio consists of several organizations I was involved with outside of major coursework. I chose to include three things that I was most passionate about during my time at UF as well as photos. The first two photos show my time as Vice President of the UF Pre-Physician Assistant Association during my senior year. This organization helped me tremendously in determining my career goals. Serving on the executive board has allowed me to help other students discover both the PA profession and all they can do to work towards it. In this organization, I attended the UF PPAA Medical Mission Trip twice, shown in the next set of photos on this page. The medical mission trip helped to drive my passion for a career in health education and medicine. The last set of photos shows my time as a Dance Marathon Leadership Development Captain for 3 years. During this time, I helped to engage incoming students with UF’s Dance Marathon Program, as well as fund-raised over $4000 for UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. These three extracurricular experiences helped to shape who I am today and shaped how I view health education as a whole.

The last page of my Professional Portfolio is the “Conclusion Page”, which allowed me to reflect on my time as a Health Education and Behavior student at UF. This section includes an assessment of my time in the health education program and the opportunities it has given me, as I wouldn’t be where I am today without these experiences.
